Nigeria international Kevin Akpoguma, currently without a club after leaving his last employer this summer, is being linked with a move to Serie A side Frosinone as the Italians explore defensive reinforcements.
The 31-year-old centre-back, who also holds German nationality, is available as a free agent and is understood to be an attainable option given his current estimated value of around €1.5 million. Frosinone are thought to be assessing experienced targets capable of stepping straight into a top-flight back line, with Akpoguma’s profile fitting the search for a physically imposing right-footed defender.
Akpoguma, born in Neustadt an der Weinstraße and standing at 1.92m, has built a career primarily in central defence but can operate across the back line if required. His status as a Nigeria international adds further top-level experience to his CV, and a potential move to Italy would mark the latest step in a career that has already taken in domestic and international honours at youth level.
He emerged as a standout talent in Germany’s youth system, winning the European Under-19 Championship with Germany in 2014 after previously collecting the prestigious Fritz Walter gold medal the year before. At club level, he played a key role in Karlsruher SC’s triumphant 2012–13 campaign, which brought the German third-tier title, promotion and a regional cup win.
With no contract currently tying him down and pre-season preparations intensifying across Europe, Akpoguma’s future is likely to attract increasing attention, and Frosinone’s interest underlines the market appeal of an experienced free-agent defender at this stage of the window.
