Kaizer Chiefs sign Thabo Moloisane as first arrival ahead of 2026/27 season

South African giants Kaizer Chiefs have completed the signing of defender Thabo Moloisane as the club begins preparations for the 2026/27 season.

The Soweto-based side announced the arrival of the 27-year-old centre-back, who joins after an impressive spell with Stellenbosch FC and becomes Amakhosi’s first signing ahead of the new campaign.

Moloisane arrives with significant domestic and continental experience at a time when Chiefs are preparing for another season of CAF football.

Born in Meadowlands, Soweto, the defender returns closer to home after establishing himself as one of the most reliable performers in the Premier Soccer League during his time in the Western Cape.

In a statement confirming the move, the club said:

“Kaizer Chiefs is delighted to announce the arrival of Thabo Moloisane for the upcoming season.”

The defender leaves Stellenbosch after making 115 appearances across three seasons, a period in which he became a key figure in the club’s backline.

His consistency and performances earned him two call-ups to the South African national team, further enhancing his reputation as one of the country’s dependable defenders.

Chiefs believe his experience could prove valuable as the club seeks to strengthen its squad for both domestic and continental competition.

“Born in Meadowlands, Soweto, the defender arrives from Stellenbosch FC, where he impressed with 115 appearances in three seasons.

“Primarily used as a central defender, Moloisane’s quality and consistency earned him two call-ups to the national team during his time in the Western Cape province.”

Moloisane’s arrival also brings experience gained in African club football. During his spell at Stellenbosch, he featured in the CAF Confederation Cup and helped the club establish itself among the country’s top sides.

Chiefs highlighted that aspect of his profile as an important factor behind the move.

“Above all, he brings valuable experience from African competitions, having already played in the Confederation Cup. His continental experience will be a major asset for the Amakhosi as the team prepares to return to the CAF scene for a new season.”

The defender enjoyed a successful period at Stellenbosch. During his time with the club, he helped them lift the Carling Knockout Cup, reach back-to-back MTN8 finals and secure qualification for CAF Confederation Cup football.

Before joining Stellenbosch, Moloisane spent time with Maritzburg United, continuing a steady rise that has now earned him a move to one of South Africa’s most decorated clubs.

According to reports, the defender has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at Naturena until June 2029.

He is expected to join his new teammates when the squad resumes pre-season training in preparation for the upcoming campaign.

Chiefs concluded their announcement by welcoming the player to the club.

“He will join the Glamour Boys when pre-season training resumes. We welcome Thabo and look forward to seeing him represent the Amakhosi in gold and black.”

The signing comes during a period of change at the club. Chiefs also announced the appointment of French coach Fernando Da Cruz as their new head coach on a two-year deal, with an option to extend his stay.
