Kaizer Chiefs have completed the signing of Tanzanian international Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko from Azam FC, making him the first player from Tanzania to join the Soweto giants.
The 27-year-old defensive midfielder, who captained Azam, arrives at Naturena for an undisclosed fee and adds to an already diverse squad that has featured players from more than 20 African nations in the club’s history.
In a statement on their official website, Chiefs confirmed his arrival and highlighted both his leadership and international pedigree.

Experienced midfielder boosts Amakhosi’s options
Bitegeko’s arrival strengthens Kaizer Chiefs in a key area of the pitch, with the club seeking to rebuild and challenge more consistently in the Betway Premiership.
Having spent six seasons in Scandinavia – featuring in the top divisions in Iceland, Norway and Finland – the midfielder brings European experience and tactical discipline to the Glamour Boys.
After returning to Tanzania in 2024, he played a central role in guiding Azam FC to a third-place finish in the Tanzanian Premier League last season. His performances for club and country, where he has served as vice-captain of the national side, have underlined his reputation as a leader on and off the pitch.
Bitegeko’s signing also continues Chiefs’ long-standing strategy of recruiting from across the continent, adding further variety to their midfield options ahead of the new campaign.
Duba tipped as key attacking weapon
While attention focuses on the new arrival, Kaizer Chiefs are also expected to rely heavily on the continued development of young forward Wandile Duba.
The 22-year-old is regarded by many around the club as one of the best finishers in the squad and has built a strong rapport with supporters. Able to operate as a central striker in the number nine role or out wide in a front three, Duba offers tactical flexibility in attack.
He registered three goals and two assists in 18 league appearances last season. Although those numbers are modest, his strikes have often come in high-profile fixtures and have been noted for their quality and timing. Such flashes of brilliance may yet draw interest from other South African sides or clubs abroad if he maintains his progress.
Chiefs handed tricky opener at Kruger United
The unveiling of Bitegeko comes as Kaizer Chiefs prepare for the start of the 2026-27 Betway Premiership season, with fixtures already confirmed.
Newly promoted Kruger United will host Amakhosi on the opening day of the campaign, Saturday 1 August, in Bushbuckridge. The match will be Kruger United’s first top-flight outing, setting up a high-profile occasion for the Mpumalanga side against one of South Africa’s most decorated clubs.
With the World Cup now concluded, attention is turning back to domestic football, where Chiefs will be under pressure to improve on recent seasons. The trip to Kruger United is expected to provide an early test of their readiness and of how quickly Bitegeko and any other new recruits can adapt.
