Hope FC have opened negotiations with Kaizer Chiefs over a season-long loan deal for midfielder Samkelo Zwane, with the newly promoted club viewing the 22-year-old as a key target ahead of the 2026/27 Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign.
The proposed move would give Zwane the chance to secure regular first-team football after struggling to establish himself in the Kaizer Chiefs senior side. Discussions between the two clubs are ongoing, although an agreement over the player’s salary during the loan spell still needs to be reached.
According to iDiski Times journalist Sinethemba Makonco, Hope FC have formally approached Amakhosi about taking Zwane for the 2026/27 season. The club are keen to strengthen their squad as they prepare for life in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and believe the midfielder could play an important role in their campaign.
Zwane joined the Kaizer Chiefs academy before progressing into the first team. He made his senior debut in 2022 under former head coach Arthur Zwane and quickly attracted attention with his composure in possession and assured passing.
During his breakthrough campaign, the central midfielder made 15 first-team appearances. His performances also led to a call-up to the South Africa Under-23 national team, underlining the potential he had shown at club level.
His progress has since been slowed by greater competition for places in the Kaizer Chiefs midfield. As a result, Zwane has fallen down the pecking order and has had limited opportunities to feature regularly for the senior team.
A loan move to Siwelele FC last season did not provide the expected breakthrough, leaving Zwane still searching for sustained first-team football. A switch to Hope FC could offer him another opportunity to rebuild his confidence and demonstrate his ability in a competitive environment.
Football agent Mike Makaab has previously supported the idea of Zwane leaving Kaizer Chiefs temporarily to continue his development.
“We all know the qualities that Zwane has. But we also have to realise that he hasn’t played enough. And the club could affect the confidence of the player. Hence, I say that the loan move is perfect in the sense that he can get regular game-time and continue to gain experience.”
Kaizer Chiefs and Hope FC must now settle the remaining financial details before the proposed transfer can be completed. The player’s salary is understood to be the main issue still requiring agreement between the clubs.
Should the negotiations conclude before the transfer window closes, Zwane will join Hope FC for the 2026/27 season. The intended outcome would be for him to gain valuable competitive experience, restore his confidence and return to Kaizer Chiefs as a more complete midfielder.
Hope FC’s interest represents another chance for the former Kaizer Chiefs academy player to revive his career after finding regular first-team opportunities difficult to secure at Naturena. The club’s plans for the new Motsepe Foundation Championship season could provide him with the playing time needed to continue his development.
