Kaizer Chiefs consider Shabalala and Vilakazi in predicted XI for TS Galaxy clash

Kaizer Chiefs are expected to hand attacking roles to Mduduzi Shabalala and Mfundo Vilakazi when they face TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup on Tuesday evening.

The match comes as Chiefs attempt to recover from their CAF Confederation Cup exit against Red Arrows, with head coach Fernando da Cruz under increasing pressure.

A defeat would intensify scrutiny on the Frenchman and could raise further questions about his future at the club. However, victory against TS Galaxy would offer Da Cruz some relief before Chiefs face Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby this weekend.

The manager could also make a change in goal. Brandon Petersen may return to the starting XI if he is fit, particularly with the derby ahead. His potential inclusion would give him the opportunity to play before the important meeting with Pirates.

Da Cruz could instead keep Bruce Bvuma as his goalkeeper, meaning Petersen’s possible return remains uncertain.

Miguel Inacio and Thabo Moloisane are expected to start together at centre-back, with Reeve Frosler and Bradley Cross completing the defence from the full-back positions.

In midfield, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Lebohang Maboe could be selected as the two deeper players. Their role would be to provide Chiefs with control in the centre of the pitch and a platform from which the attacking players can operate.

Chiefs may use a youthful combination further forward, with Shabalala and Vilakazi both in contention to start. Asanele Velebayi is another option on the wing, while Flavio Silva is expected to lead the attack.

A place in the next round of the Carling Knockout Cup would give Chiefs an important lift after their continental disappointment and provide momentum before the Soweto Derby.

Kaizer Chiefs’ predicted line-up against TS Galaxy:

Brandon Petersen; Reeve Frosler, Miguel Inacio, Thabo Moloisane, Bradley Cross; Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Lebohang Maboe; Asanele Velebayi, Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi; Flavio Silva.
