Juventus have confirmed the termination of Arthur Melo’s contract, saying the decision will create a negative economic impact of approximately €6m for the Italian club.
The Brazilian midfielder returned to Juventus after spending last season on loan at Gremio, but he had not made a competitive appearance for the Bianconeri since the 2021-22 campaign.
Juventus announced the end of the agreement on X, formerly Twitter, before outlining the financial consequences in an official statement. As quoted by Sport Mediaset, the club said: “This operation generates a negative economic impact of approximately €6m as a result of adjusting the net book value of the player’s right to sporting services.”
The termination brings to an end Arthur’s six-year association with Juventus following his move from Barcelona in the summer of 2020. He joined as part of a player-plus-cash exchange involving Miralem Pjanic.
Arthur made 63 appearances in all competitions for Juventus, scoring once and providing one assist. However, he struggled to establish himself as a regular in the team and spent several periods away from the club on loan.
During his time under contract in Turin, Arthur was sent to Liverpool, Fiorentina, Girona and Gremio. None of those clubs made the midfielder’s move permanent, meaning he returned to Juventus after each spell.
His loan at Gremio was his latest attempt to secure regular football. After coming back to Juventus, he remained without a competitive appearance before the club confirmed the contract termination.
The financial adjustment announced by Juventus reflects the remaining net book value attached to Arthur’s registration rights. The club described the operation as generating an approximate €6m negative economic impact.
Arthur’s departure formally ends a relationship that began with significant expectations after the exchange deal with Barcelona. He leaves having played a limited role in Juventus’ squad and with his career at the club defined by multiple loan moves.
The two sides have now officially parted company six years after Arthur joined Juventus.
