Josh Maja: West Brom and Nigeria striker linked with Valencia move in La Liga switch rumour

Josh Maja, the Nigeria and England-qualified centre-forward currently at West Bromwich Albion, is being linked with a move to La Liga side Valencia as the Spanish club assess attacking options for the new season.

The 27-year-old, who wears the No 9 shirt at The Hawthorns, has a reported valuation of around €4.5 million and is understood to be on Valencia’s shortlist as they look to add a central striker with experience of major European leagues. Any deal would see Maja swap the Championship for Spain’s top flight, where Valencia are seeking greater depth in the final third.

Maja joined West Brom in August 2023 after leaving Bordeaux, arriving on a free transfer following spells in both Ligue 1 and the Championship. His time in France included 47 Ligue 1 appearances and nine goals, while in England’s second tier he has amassed 110 Championship games, scoring 19 times and providing six assists.

The London-born forward, who stands at 1.81m and is right-footed, has also featured in the Premier League, registering three goals in 15 outings, as well as impressing in Ligue 2 with 16 goals in 38 matches. That mix of English and French top-level experience is thought to appeal to Valencia as they weigh up a relatively low-cost option at centre-forward.

Maja’s contract length at West Brom has not been publicly disclosed, but the Championship club are expected to consider their position carefully given his current market value and previous peak valuation of €10m during his time in France.
