Iliman Ndiaye: “Nothing will distract Senegal at 2026 World Cup”

Senegal midfielder Iliman Ndiaye says the Lions of Teranga will head into the 2026 FIFA World Cup fully focused on competing for success, insisting the squad will not allow distractions to derail their ambitions.

The Everton F.C. attacker is preparing for his second World Cup appearance after playing a key role in Senegal’s rise among Africa’s leading football nations in recent years.

Speaking to the BBC, Ndiaye stressed that Senegal intend to approach the tournament with the same winning mentality that guided them to Africa Cup of Nations success.

“We will approach the World Cup with the same focus, the same thirst for victory and the same determination as before the AFCON. Another trophy is at stake and nothing will distract us,” Ndiaye said.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, will mark Senegal’s fourth appearance at football’s biggest tournament.

Senegal have been drawn into a difficult Group I alongside France, Norway and Iraq. The Lions are set to open their campaign against Didier Deschamps’ France side.

Ndiaye’s comments reflect the growing confidence within the Senegal camp as preparations continue ahead of the competition. The former African champions are expected to rely on a mix of experience, discipline and attacking quality as they aim to progress from the group stage and make another strong impact on the world stage.
