Idrissa Gana Gueye has linked up with the Senegal team in the United States despite remaining under medical supervision as he continues his recovery from injury.
The experienced midfielder, who plays for Everton, joined the Lions of Teranga camp on Friday after missing the opening phase of preparations.
His arrival provides a timely boost for head coach Pape Thiaw, who is overseeing Senegal’s build-up to upcoming international assignments.
Although Gueye has returned to the squad, the 36-year-old is still recovering from an injury sustained during club duty and will be reintegrated gradually. Senegal’s medical staff are expected to closely monitor his condition and carefully manage his workload throughout the camp.
Rather than taking part fully in all training activities immediately, the midfielder will follow a structured rehabilitation programme designed to help him regain full fitness while reducing the risk of aggravating the injury.
The cautious approach reflects Gueye’s importance to the squad. One of Senegal’s most experienced internationals, he remains a key figure both on the pitch and in the dressing room, bringing leadership and composure to the national team setup.
His presence is expected to strengthen morale within the camp as Senegal continue preparations, even if his training involvement remains limited in the short term.
The coaching and medical teams will assess his progress daily before determining when he can return to full-intensity training and competitive action.
For now, Senegal’s priority is ensuring Gueye reaches peak condition through a controlled recovery process, allowing him to contribute effectively when called upon.
