Ibrahim Mbaye has told Paris Saint-Germain that he wants to join Liverpool, setting up a transfer standoff between the player and the French club.
According to information from Topskills Sports UK, the Paris-based forward has made his preference clear to the PSG hierarchy. Discussions over his personal terms are already said to be at an advanced stage, with a contract running until 2031 being considered.
Mbaye is understood to have indicated that Liverpool is his preferred destination while negotiations between the two clubs continue behind the scenes. The player’s position adds pressure to talks, although PSG have so far shown no willingness to accept Liverpool’s opening proposal.
Liverpool are reported to have submitted a package worth €50m for the young attacker. That figure would consist of €40m in guaranteed payments, with a further €10m available in bonuses.
However, PSG regard the offer as insufficient. The French club are seeking between €55m and €60m in guaranteed money before agreeing to Mbaye’s departure. Paris are not prepared to bend to the first offer from Liverpool and remain open to interest from other clubs capable of meeting their valuation.
The negotiations could therefore become one of the main transfer stories to follow until the market closes. Liverpool must decide whether to improve their proposal, while PSG will have to weigh their financial demands against the player’s desire to leave.
Mbaye could be left out of matches until the final day of the transfer window while the dispute continues. If PSG do not receive an offer that matches their expectations, his exclusion could extend as far as January.
The situation means the coming hours may prove significant for all parties. Mbaye wants a move to England, Liverpool have already made their interest concrete, and PSG are determined not to sell below their required fixed fee.
Transfermarkt currently values Ibrahim Mbaye at €30m. In France, the player is reported to earn €910,000 per year, equivalent to 591,500,000 FCFA.
