Hull City 2-0 Manchester United: Ajayi and Mendy put hosts in control at half-time

Hull City lead Manchester United 2-0 at half-time after a disappointing first-half display from the visitors, with Semi Ajayi scoring a follow-up from a corner and Nobel Mendy adding a header.

The opening stages were tracked through a series of highlights and match events, with the live feed recording moments at four, 12, 14, 25 and 28 minutes.

Hull City broke the deadlock in the 18th minute. Semi Ajayi reacted quickest after a corner to score with a follow-up shot, giving the home side a 1-0 advantage.

Manchester United were unable to respond before the interval and Hull doubled their lead 20 minutes later. Nobel Mendy found the net with a header in the 38th minute, leaving the Red Devils two goals behind at the break.

The match feed had initially marked the game as being about to start before recording the early highlights. Hull’s two goals, however, were the key moments of the first half and gave them a strong position going into the second period.

Hull City named a starting XI of Egan, Matt Crooks, Semi Ajayi, McBurnie, Lewie Coyle, Regan Slater, Ryan Giles, Tzolakis, Elliot Stroud, Mohamed Belloumi and Nobel Mendy.

Their substitutes were Paddy McNair, Targett, Dillon Phillips, Kieran Dowell, Liam Millar, Cody Drameh, Lucas Gourna-Douath and Lucas Herrington.

Manchester United started with Maguire, Luke Shaw, Bruno Fernandes, Tielemans, Mazraoui, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Senne Lammens, Andrey Santos, Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven.

The Manchester United substitutes were Darlow, Dalot, Rashford, Lisandro Martinez, Zirkzee, Benjamin Sesko, Mainoo, Yoro and Shea Lacey.

Hull’s advantage came from two different types of set-piece situations. Ajayi’s goal followed a corner and a second attempt, while Mendy increased the lead with a header.

With the score at 2-0, Manchester United must improve after the interval if they are to change the outcome. Hull City, meanwhile, return for the second half with a two-goal cushion after a first period in which they made the decisive moments count.
