Hakimi vows Morocco will give their best in World Cup knockout stage

Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi has promised that the Atlas Lions will continue giving everything for their country as they prepare for the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The North Africans secured their place in the knockout stage after a thrilling 4-2 victory over Haiti, a result that saw Morocco finish second in Group C and continue their journey in the global tournament.

Despite being tested by an energetic Haitian side, Morocco demonstrated resilience, quality and composure to overturn adversity and secure qualification.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS after the match, Hakimi praised the mentality shown by his teammates, particularly after the team found themselves in an unfamiliar situation during the contest.

“We have never been in this situation before, and I am happy with the team’s spirit and its ability to come back in the game after falling behind. I am also happy with the performance and effort made by the players,” Hakimi said.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender emphasised that his primary objective remains helping the team rather than focusing on personal achievements.

“Regarding scoring and creating a goal, I am just trying to help my team and perform well in a way that benefits the group. I am here for my country and my teammates, and I always strive to do my best,” he added.

Morocco were forced to work hard against Haiti, whose attacking approach and determination created several difficult moments throughout the encounter.

However, the Atlas Lions eventually relied on their experience and attacking quality to take control and secure the victory that guaranteed progression.

Hakimi also highlighted the strength in depth available to the Moroccan squad, underlining the importance of every player within the group.

“As for changes, every player on our roster is available to participate, and we have a distinguished group of players,” he said.

The captain explained that squad rotation had formed an important part of Morocco’s strategy as they look to manage workloads and maintain freshness ahead of the demanding knockout phase.

“We are implementing the coach’s instructions, and we made some changes because we needed to rest some players in preparation for the next stage,” Hakimi continued.

Looking ahead to the Round of 32, the defender insisted Morocco remain fully focused on their own performances and are determined to continue making their supporters proud.

“We are focused on ourselves, ready for the next competition, and we will give our best. Our goal is for the Moroccan people to be proud of us,” he concluded.

Morocco’s qualification further reinforces their growing reputation as one of Africa’s strongest representatives on the global stage. Combining tactical discipline, technical quality and a strong collective spirit, the Atlas Lions have once again shown they are capable of competing with the world’s best.

With the knockout rounds now approaching, attention turns to whether Hakimi and his teammates can maintain their momentum and continue their pursuit of another historic World Cup run.
