Hakim Ziyech eyes Eredivisie return after Wydad spell

Hakim Ziyech is reportedly preparing to leave Wydad Athletic Club at the end of the season following the expected departure of club president Hicham Aït Menna.

According to reports from Africafoot, the Moroccan international has already informed club officials of his intention to move on after reassessing his future with the Casablanca-based side.

Ziyech is believed to have been strongly influenced by the sporting vision and long-term ambitions presented by Aït Menna when he agreed to join Wydad.

However, the anticipated exit of the club president has reportedly played a major role in changing the midfielder’s outlook regarding his future at the club.

Sources close to the former Chelsea and AFC Ajax star suggest he is reluctant to remain at Wydad during what could become another major rebuilding phase.

The Moroccan giants are expected to undergo significant administrative and technical changes ahead of next season, creating uncertainty around the direction of the club.

Despite reportedly receiving lucrative offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Ziyech is said to favour a return to the Dutch Eredivisie.

The 33-year-old reportedly believes a move back to the Netherlands could help him rediscover his best physical and technical condition ahead of future international commitments with Morocco national football team.

Ziyech previously enjoyed some of the best years of his career in Dutch football with FC Twente and Ajax before earning high-profile moves across Europe.

Although injuries affected parts of his campaign with Wydad, the Moroccan playmaker still produced impressive numbers during the season.

In the Botola Pro, Ziyech made nine appearances, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in just 566 minutes of action.

His efficiency in front of goal saw him average a goal every 81 minutes during league play.

He also featured four times in the CAF Confederation Cup, adding another goal to his tally before injuries disrupted his involvement during key stages of the Throne Cup campaign.

Overall, Ziyech is expected to finish his spell at Wydad with 13 appearances across all competitions, contributing eight goals and two assists in 843 minutes.

His potential departure would represent a major blow for the Moroccan club both on the pitch and commercially.

Ziyech’s arrival significantly boosted Wydad’s international visibility and attracted wider attention to the club across African football.

With both Aït Menna and Ziyech now expected to leave, Wydad could be entering a significant transition period ahead of the new season.
