Guinea defender Madiou Keita set for Swedish return with Västerås SK

Guinea international Madiou Keita is on the verge of returning to Swedish football, with Västerås SK reportedly close to completing a deal for the young defender following his spell in Belgium.

The 21-year-old centre-back is expected to join the Swedish club from Belgian second-tier side RWDM Brussels, with reports indicating that all major aspects of the transfer have already been agreed.

According to information reported by Expressen, only a medical examination remains before the move can be officially completed and announced.

For Keita, the transfer would represent a return to a country where he previously made a positive impression during a loan spell with Örgryte IS.

The defender spent part of last season in Sweden while contracted to French side AJ Auxerre.

During that period, he featured in nine matches and contributed two assists, performances that helped establish his reputation in the Superettan.

His displays appear to have left a lasting impression on Swedish clubs, and Västerås SK have now moved to bring him back as they seek to strengthen their defensive options.

The move also highlights another step in the career of a young African defender who has gained experience across several European leagues despite his age.

Born in France but representing Guinea internationally, Keita has continued to build his professional career through opportunities in France, Sweden and Belgium.

After leaving Sweden, he completed a move to RWDM Brussels, where he spent the most recent campaign in Belgium’s Challenger Pro League.

During the season, he made 14 appearances for the club as he adapted to a new footballing environment and continued his development at senior level.

Now, however, a return to Sweden appears imminent.

Expressen reported that Västerås SK have identified Keita as a key addition ahead of the next phase of their campaign, believing his previous experience in Swedish football will allow him to settle quickly.

The club is understood to value not only his defensive qualities but also his familiarity with the demands of the Swedish game.

One report described the situation in clear terms:

“Västerås SK makes the summer’s first signing as they recruit Madiou Keita from RWDM Brussels in Belgium. The center-back was on loan to Örgryte last year, and is now returning to Swedish football. This time in VSK’s shirt.”

Further reports added that an agreement between the parties is already in place and that the transfer is now dependent on the successful completion of medical checks.

“According to information provided to Expressen, Madiou Keita is ready for Västerås SK. The parties have agreed on a contract and if he passes the medical examination, he will be presented shortly.”

For Guinea, the move offers another example of one of the country’s emerging talents continuing to establish himself in European football.
