Ghana-born Taufic Seidu makes Atlético Madrid debut in Barca defeat

Taufic Seidu marked a major milestone in his young career after making his senior debut for Atlético Madrid during their 2-1 defeat to FC Barcelona on Saturday evening.

The 18-year-old midfielder was introduced in the 68th minute, replacing Clément Lenglet, as Atlético looked to regain control of a tightly contested encounter.

Despite the result, Seidu’s appearance was a significant personal achievement, highlighting his steady rise through the club’s ranks.

Atlético had taken the lead earlier in the match through Giuliano Simeone in the 39th minute, but Barcelona responded quickly, with Marcus Rashford equalizing just three minutes later.

The match appeared to be heading for a draw before Robert Lewandowski struck deep into stoppage time to secure victory for Barcelona.

While the late goal overshadowed Atlético’s efforts, the night will be remembered as a breakthrough moment for Seidu.

Born in Accra in 2008, Taufic Seidu moved to Spain at a young age, settling in Málaga before joining Atlético Madrid’s youth system.

His development within the club’s academy has been closely watched, with coaches impressed by his composure, technical ability and leadership qualities. He has also captained Spain’s under-17 national team, underlining his growing reputation at youth level.

Seidu’s introduction into senior football follows the foot steps of Thomas Partey who had a similar trajectory at the Madrid-based club.

Although the result did not go in Atlético’s favour, the teenager’s debut offers a glimpse into the club’s future and potentially the emergence of another Ghanaian-born talent on the European stage.
