Ghana winger Nuamah returns after year-long injury absence

Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been strengthened by the return of winger Ernest Nuamah following a long-term injury layoff.

The 22-year-old has made his comeback after more than a year out of action, providing a significant boost to the Ghana national football team as they intensify preparations for the tournament. His return is also a welcome development for head coach Carlos Queiroz, who is seeking to strengthen his squad ahead of the global competition.

Nuamah had been sidelined since 5 April 2025 after sustaining a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The setback kept him out for 391 days, during which he missed 54 matches. He made his long-awaited return as a second-half substitute, playing the final six minutes of a match at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

His recovery comes at a crucial time for Ghana, who have been drawn into a challenging group for the tournament. The Black Stars are set to face England national football team, Panama national football team, and Croatia national football team, making squad depth and attacking strength vital components of their campaign.

Before his injury, Nuamah had established himself as a promising attacking option during the qualification phase. The former FC Nordsjaelland forward scored two goals in five appearances, underlining his importance to the team’s offensive play. His performances during that period marked him out as one of Ghana’s most dangerous attacking players.

Known for his speed, creativity, and ability to find the back of the net, Nuamah offers qualities that could be decisive against high-level opposition. His return provides Ghana with an additional attacking dimension as they prepare to compete on the world stage.

Attention will now turn to his fitness and readiness for the tournament. Having only recently returned to action, the winger is expected to focus on regaining full match sharpness in the coming weeks. His progress will be closely monitored as the Black Stars look to assemble a squad capable of competing effectively in a demanding group.

The 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, is fast approaching. For Ghana, the return of a key player at this stage could prove significant in their efforts to make an impact.

If Nuamah can return to peak condition in time, he may play a pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s performance at the tournament, offering renewed hope to a team aiming to compete strongly against some of the world’s best sides.
