Carlos Queiroz has named a 28-man squad for Ghana national football team’s training camp ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with young goalkeeper Paul Reverson among the notable inclusions.
The Black Stars are preparing for an international friendly against the Wales national football team in Cardiff on 2 June as part of their final build-up before the tournament begins.
Reverson, who is 20 years old and currently plays for the youth teams of AFC Ajax, has been brought into camp as the coaching staff continue assessing options for the future.
The goalkeeper made his debut for Ghana’s Under-20 side last year and is now being given the opportunity to train alongside the senior national team.
According to the Ghana Football Association, the player’s invitation forms part of a broader long-term assessment process aimed at identifying talent capable of contributing to the national side in the years ahead.
The decision reflects Queiroz’s wider intention to balance immediate World Cup preparation with the gradual introduction of younger players into the senior squad structure.
Ghana’s players assembled on Monday, 25 May 2026, at Dragon Park in Cardiff as preparations officially began for the upcoming friendly against Wales.
The squad selected by the Portuguese coach contains five goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders and seven forwards as Ghana continue to fine-tune plans before travelling to North America for the World Cup.
A social media post from journalist Owuraku Ampofo highlighted Reverson’s inclusion, stating: “Ajax goalkeeper 🇬🇭 Paul Reverson will also join the training camp. The 20-year old debuted for the U20 team last year.According to the GFA, Reverson has been called up for ‘further assessment with a long-term view.’”
The friendly against Wales is expected to provide Queiroz with an important opportunity to assess combinations, fitness levels and tactical preparations ahead of the global tournament.
Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama national football team in Toronto as part of Group L.
The Black Stars will then face the England national football team in Boston before concluding their group-stage fixtures against the Croatia national football team in Philadelphia.
The tournament will mark another major test for Ghana as they seek to progress beyond the group stage against strong international opposition.
For Queiroz, the preparation camp in Cardiff is not only about immediate results but also about shaping the longer-term future of the national team.
Reverson’s inclusion is viewed as part of that broader process, with the Ajax youngster given an early opportunity to impress within the senior set-up while gaining experience around established internationals.
The Wales fixture will also allow the coaching staff to evaluate players in competitive conditions before the World Cup campaign begins next month.
