Italian side Genoa have expressed interest in signing Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the Serie A club making initial enquiries about the experienced striker’s availability.
The move comes after Aubameyang enjoyed an impressive season with Olympique de Marseille, where he rediscovered his goalscoring form following his return to European football.
Although no formal bid has been submitted, Genoa are understood to be assessing the conditions of a possible transfer as they seek to strengthen their attack.
For African football supporters, the latest interest in Aubameyang highlights the continued demand for one of the continent’s most accomplished forwards, despite the striker entering the latter stages of his career.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Genoa have taken the first steps by requesting information on the Gabon captain’s situation.
The Serie A club is looking for an experienced striker capable of adding leadership and proven goalscoring ability, and Aubameyang fits the profile they are seeking.
At this stage, however, discussions remain preliminary.
No official offer has been made to Marseille, with Genoa currently focused on understanding the financial and sporting conditions that would be required to complete any potential deal.
Aubameyang, who is 37, remains under contract with Marseille until June 2027.
The Gabonese striker returned to European football last summer after his spell with Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah and quickly re-established himself as an important player for the French side.
During the 2025-26 Ligue 1 campaign, he scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 30 league appearances, demonstrating that he continues to deliver at the highest level.
His performances have ensured he remains an attractive option for clubs seeking an experienced forward capable of making an immediate impact.
Marseille are also reported to still value the striker, whose contract has another year to run.
However, separate reports suggest Aubameyang has been told to find a new club during the current transfer window, creating uncertainty over where he will begin the new season.
If a move materialises, it would add another chapter to a career that has taken Aubameyang across some of Europe’s biggest leagues.
The Gabon international has previously represented Borussia Dortmund in Germany, Arsenal and Chelsea in England, and Barcelona in Spain before returning to France with Marseille.
His experience across Europe’s elite competitions is one of the qualities believed to have attracted Genoa’s attention.
Internationally, Aubameyang remains one of Gabon’s greatest footballers.
He has scored 28 goals in 49 appearances for the Panthers, establishing himself as one of the country’s most prolific forwards.
His achievements with both club and country have made him one of Africa’s most recognisable football figures over the past decade.
