Cameroon left-back Fred Ondoa Onambele has taken his first major step into professional football after signing a three-year contract with French second-tier side ESTAC Troyes.
The 18-year-old defender, who is regarded as a promising talent, has officially begun his senior career with the Ligue 2 club as he looks to establish himself in European football.
Troyes confirmed the deal as part of their long-term planning, handing the young full-back a contract that will keep him at the club for the next three seasons.
The move represents a significant milestone for Onambele, who now transitions from youth football into the professional game.
The club, based in the city of Troyes in eastern France, competes in Ligue 2 but is expected to feature in Ligue 1 for the 2026–27 campaign following promotion.
They play their home matches at the Stade de l’Aube, a venue known for developing young players through competitive exposure.
Onambele’s signing continues the club’s tradition of investing in emerging talent, particularly players from Africa, who have often used the French football system as a pathway into top-level European competition.
The young Cameroonian left-back is expected to join the club’s development structure initially, with opportunities to integrate into the first-team environment depending on his progress and adaptation to senior football.
A club announcement confirmed his arrival and outlined the importance of the move for both player and team.
It stated: “News: Fred Ondoa Onambele, an 18-year-old left-back, has signed his first professional contract with ESTAC Troyes. He will play for the team for three seasons. This is an exciting step for him as he starts his career in football.”
For Onambele, the deal marks the beginning of a new chapter after progressing through the youth ranks before earning recognition from the French club.
At 18, he now faces the challenge of adapting to the physical and tactical demands of professional football in Europe.
The French side, officially known as Espérance Sportive Troyes Aube Champagne, have built a reputation for giving opportunities to young talents, often providing a platform for players to develop before moving to higher levels of competition.
