Nigeria midfielder Raphael Onyedika has joined Frankfurt from Club Brugge in a €9m transfer, taking the 25-year-old into the Bundesliga after four seasons in Belgium.
Onyedika has signed a contract with Frankfurt running until 30 June 2031. The defensive midfielder made the move on 2 August 2026 and will continue his career in Germany after establishing himself at Club Brugge.
The Imo-born player joined Club Brugge from Danish side Midtjylland in August 2022 for €9.5m. During his time with the Belgian club, he won the Belgian league title twice, in 2024 and 2026, as well as the Belgian Cup in 2025 and the Belgian Super Cup in 2026.
His arrival gives Frankfurt a midfielder whose main role is to operate in front of the defence. Onyedika is right-footed, stands 1.84m tall and has previously played in Denmark and Belgium.
Before moving to Club Brugge, he came through the Midtjylland system. He joined the club’s senior set-up from Midtjylland Under-19 in 2020 and spent part of the 2020-21 season on loan at FC Fredericia. He also won the Danish Cup with Midtjylland in 2022.
Onyedika’s honours list also includes the Danish Youth Championship with Midtjylland Under-19 in 2021 and a Danish runners-up finish with the senior side in 2022. His latest move follows a successful spell in Belgium, where he added domestic league and cup medals to his record.
Frankfurt’s new signing arrives with a market value of €23m and joins a club competing in Germany’s top division. He moves from the Jupiler Pro League to the Bundesliga as part of the club’s summer business.
The transfer is Onyedika’s third senior club change since leaving Midtjylland’s youth ranks. His career began in Nigeria with FC Ebedei before he moved to Denmark in 2019.
He is now contracted to Frankfurt through the end of June 2031, completing his switch from Club Brugge for €9m.
