Ivorian midfielder Seko Fofana is expected to return to Stade Rennais after FC Porto announced the conclusion of his loan stay with the Portuguese club.
Porto confirmed the departure on Friday through a message shared on social media, bringing an end to the 31-year-old’s short spell with the club.
During his time in Portugal, Fofana played a role in Porto’s campaign, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 12 Liga Portugal appearances. His contributions helped the club during a period in which he added experience and quality to the midfield.
The Portuguese side paid tribute to the Ivory Coast international in a farewell message, acknowledging his impact during his stay.
“Your mark will forever be etched on our title. Congratulations on the next step, Fofana,” FC Porto wrote in its farewell message.
With the loan now completed, Fofana remains under contract with Stade Rennais and is set to return to the French club ahead of the new season.
His return could also see him reunite with coach Franck Haise, a figure he worked closely with during his successful spell at RC Lens. The pair developed a strong professional relationship during their time together, and that familiarity may help ease the midfielder’s reintegration into the Rennes squad.
Fofana arrives back in Brittany with considerable experience gained from playing across several leagues and clubs. In addition to his spell at Porto, he has also represented Saudi Arabian sides Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq during his career.
The midfielder’s extensive experience at both club and international level is likely to be viewed as an asset for Rennes as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign. His leadership qualities and knowledge of top-level competition could provide added depth and stability within the squad.
Having featured in Portugal’s top flight and previously played in France and Saudi Arabia, Fofana returns to Rennes as an accomplished midfielder with a wealth of experience accumulated over the years.
The club will now look to benefit from his presence as it plans for the season ahead, while Fofana prepares for the next chapter of his career back in France.
Porto’s announcement officially closes his loan period with the Dragons, but it also marks the beginning of a fresh opportunity at Rennes, where a reunion with familiar faces and a new challenge await the Ivory Coast international.
