Former Nigeria national football team striker Michael Eneramo has died at the age of 40 after reportedly suffering a heart attack during training in Kaduna.

According to reports, Eneramo collapsed on Friday morning while training, with efforts to revive him proving unsuccessful. His sudden death has prompted tributes from across the Nigerian football community, where he is remembered for his contributions both domestically and internationally.

Eneramo earned 10 caps for Nigeria, scoring three goals during his time with the Super Eagles. Although his international appearances were limited, he was regarded as a committed forward who contributed when called upon.

He began his professional career in Nigeria with Lobi Stars before moving abroad to join Espérance Sportive de Tunis, one of North Africa’s leading clubs. His move marked the start of a career that would take him across multiple leagues and countries.

The striker spent a significant portion of his playing career in Turkey, featuring for several clubs including Sivasspor, Beşiktaş, Karabükspor, Istanbul Başakşehir, and Manisaspor. His time in Turkey established him as a well-travelled forward with experience at different levels of the game.

Eneramo’s death has come as a shock to many within the sport, particularly given the circumstances surrounding the incident. His passing adds to a growing list of losses within African football, prompting renewed reflection on player welfare and health.

Tributes are expected to continue from former teammates, clubs, and supporters who followed his career over the years. He is being remembered not only for his performances on the pitch but also for his journey from the Nigeria Premier Football League to international football.

Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course.
