“Even the best lose structure” — Beye embraces chaos in Marseille’s bold style

Habib Beye has made it clear he is willing to embrace risk in pursuit of an attacking identity at Olympique de Marseille, even if it leads to moments of defensive vulnerability.

Speaking ahead of Marseille’s trip to FC Lorient, Beye outlined his philosophy of proactive, high-intensity football one that prioritises pressing, initiative, and attacking intent.

“It is important to have a proactive team with a desire to press high and take initiative,” he explained, referencing his side’s recent performance against Metz.

However, the Marseille boss acknowledged that such an approach inevitably comes with trade-offs.

“Take the example of the third goal against Metz. A team that pushes forward can sometimes lose structure,” he admitted.

To reinforce his point, Beye pointed to the recent UEFA Champions League clash between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, a thrilling encounter that ended 4-3.

“I watched the Champions League match between Bayern and Real Madrid. We saw disjointed football with mistakes, and yet we are talking about two of the best teams,” he said.

For Beye, that match serves as evidence that even elite teams are not immune to defensive lapses when they commit bodies forward in search of goals.

Rather than shy away from those risks, the former Senegal international appears ready to accept them as part of Marseille’s evolution.

As the club continues its push for a UEFA Champions League spot, Beye’s approach signals a clear identity—one built on courage, intensity, and a willingness to live with the consequences of attacking ambition.
