Egypt sports minister orders probe into alleged discrimination during Al-Ittihad trials

Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Gawhar Nabil, has ordered an urgent investigation into allegations that a young footballer was excluded from trials at Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club because of his name.

The investigation follows claims made by the player’s mother, who alleged that her son was denied the opportunity to participate in the club’s football trials solely due to his name.

According to a statement published on the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ official platform, the minister directed that an immediate inquiry be launched to establish the facts surrounding the incident.

Nabil stressed that the ministry would take firm action if the allegations are found to be true.

He said any official found responsible would be suspended immediately and referred for legal and disciplinary proceedings.

The minister also stated that the individual could face a lifetime ban from participating in sporting activities.

The investigation is expected to determine whether any discriminatory practices occurred during the selection process at Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club, with the ministry pledging to take appropriate action based on its findings.
