Egypt map out world cup plan with Brazil clash in focus

The Egyptian Football Association has stepped up preparations for the 2026 World Cup, outlining a structured programme for the Egypt national football team ahead of the tournament in North America.

Plans for the “Pharaohs” include a domestic training camp, potential friendly fixtures, and a multi-phase overseas camp in the United States, as the team targets peak readiness for the competition beginning in June.

Group Stage Challenge Confirmed

The World Cup draw, held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts, placed Egypt in Group G alongside Belgium national football team, Iran national football team, and New Zealand national football team.

The group presents a mix of European, Asian, and Oceanian opposition, with Belgium expected to be Egypt’s most formidable rival in the opening stage.

Domestic Camp to Begin in May

According to an official source, head coach Hossam Hassan and his technical staff are satisfied with the scheduling of the Egyptian League, which is set to conclude in mid-May—allowing adequate time for preparations.

The source told winwin:
“Hossam Hassan and his assistants have decided to start a closed camp on May 20, and there are attempts still underway to arrange a friendly match to be held at the stadium of the new administrative capital.”

This initial phase will focus on assembling the squad and assessing player fitness following the domestic season.

Friendlies Under Consideration

Efforts are ongoing to secure preparatory matches, with discussions reportedly taking place with Iraq national football team and Jordan national football team, as well as a third unnamed opponent.

The source added:
“There are talks with the national teams of Iraq and Jordan and a third country to play a first friendly match for the Pharaohs, but so far no agreement has been reached in this regard.”

These fixtures are intended to provide tactical refinement and match sharpness before departure.

Overseas Camp and Brazil Test

The Egyptian delegation is scheduled to leave Cairo on 30 May, with the second phase of preparations beginning the following day in Ohio.

“The Football Association has completed the travel arrangements for the Egyptian national team to travel to the United States of America for the Pharaohs’ mission, which will be on May 30 from Cairo Airport. The second phase of the preparation period for the World Cup will begin on May 31 in Ohio, and will continue until facing the Brazilian national team on June 6.”

The match against Brazil national football team is expected to serve as a major test against elite opposition shortly before the tournament.

Final Phase in Seattle

Following the Brazil fixture, Egypt will travel to Seattle on 7 June for the final stage of their preparations.

This phase will continue until their opening World Cup match against Belgium on 15 June, also set to take place in Seattle.

The source emphasised a cautious approach to player fitness in the final days before the tournament:
“Hossam Hassan wants to avoid playing any friendly matches after facing Brazil, in case any member of the Egyptian national team gets a sudden injury.”

Structured Approach Signals Serious Intent

Egypt’s carefully planned preparation programme reflects a clear focus on balancing competitive readiness with injury prevention. With a high-profile test against Brazil and a phased training strategy in place, the Pharaohs aim to arrive at the World Cup in optimal condition.

Much will depend on how effectively the squad adapts during the overseas camp, as they prepare to navigate a challenging group and make an impact on football’s biggest stage.
