Egypt are continuing to monitor Brighton youngster Younes Ibrahim after the 18-year-old was included in the Premier League club’s squad for their match against Coventry City on Sunday.
Ibrahim’s emergence has attracted attention in Egypt, with the teenager now being considered among the young players who could potentially represent the Pharaohs in the future.
The Brighton player is eligible to represent Egypt as well as England, Australia and Morocco. He came through Brighton’s youth system before recently making the step up to the first team.
However, his recent involvement with Brighton does not mean he has been added to Egypt’s latest squad.
Sources within the Egyptian national team told WinWin that Ibrahim was presented to head coach Hossam Hassan several months ago, before Egypt’s participation in the 2026 World Cup.
The Egyptian Football Association’s scouting committee, which monitors players with dual or multiple nationalities who are playing abroad, has also been following the youngster for some time.
The committee has already established communication with Ibrahim as part of efforts to persuade him to choose Egypt at international level.
Ibrahim remains under observation
Although Ibrahim has not been included in the list of overseas-based players selected for the Egyptian national team’s upcoming camp, he remains under consideration by Hassan and his coaching staff.
The teenager is being monitored alongside several other Egyptian-eligible players based outside the country.
The Professional Players Follow-up Committee of the Egyptian Football Association has compiled a list of young players holding dual nationalities as part of a wider effort to identify potential players for Egypt’s national teams at different age levels.
The committee’s recent work resulted in Jihad Ayman of Brazilian club Santos and Reda Babiker of Dutch side PSV Eindhoven being included in the Egypt Under-17 squad born in 2010.
That team is preparing for the qualifiers for the African Under-17 Nations Championship.
Ibrahim’s case is therefore part of a broader process of tracking young players who could become options for Egypt in the future.
For now, the Brighton youngster remains outside Hassan’s latest squad, but his development at club level continues to be monitored by the Egyptian national team setup.
Egypt prepare for AFCON qualifiers
Egypt are preparing for their next two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Pharaohs will face Angola on 25 September before playing South Sudan four days later on 29 September in the first and second rounds of the qualifying campaign.
Their preparations will then conclude with a friendly against South Africa in Cairo on 4 October.
While Ibrahim is not part of the current camp, his progress at Brighton is expected to remain under observation as Egypt’s national team continues to assess young players eligible to represent the country.
