Ministry of Youth and Sports of Egypt has announced intensified efforts to combat sports betting as authorities seek to address the growing spread of illegal electronic gambling platforms and protect young people from associated risks.
In an official statement, the ministry said it is implementing what it described as an integrated strategy aimed at limiting the expansion of sports betting and preserving the integrity of sporting competitions across the country.
The campaign forms part of broader Egyptian state efforts focused on youth protection and maintaining fair competition within sport, particularly amid concerns surrounding the increasing accessibility of betting platforms through digital applications and online services.
According to the ministry, the plan combines executive measures, awareness programmes and monitoring mechanisms designed to confront the phenomenon from several directions at once.
Officials warned that electronic betting platforms pose dangers not only to sports institutions but also to children, young people and wider society.
Coordination With Financial Authorities
The ministry confirmed that it is working closely with Central Bank of Egypt as part of efforts to monitor financial transactions connected to sports betting activities.
Authorities said the cooperation aims to strengthen oversight of suspicious transactions linked to illegal electronic platforms and prevent practices that could threaten both economic and social stability.
The ministry stated that the coordination reflects a joint institutional response to the growing challenges posed by online betting operations, particularly those functioning outside legal and regulatory frameworks.
Sports betting has increasingly become a concern for governments and sports authorities globally because of fears surrounding addiction, financial exploitation and the potential impact on sporting integrity.
Egyptian officials indicated that stronger monitoring systems are being introduced as part of attempts to reduce the influence of unregulated platforms.
Specialised Committee Formed
As part of the new measures, the Ministry of Youth and Sports announced the creation of a specialised committee dedicated to monitoring the phenomenon of sports betting.
The committee will include experts and specialists from sports, legal and technological sectors and will be tasked with studying the issue from multiple perspectives.
According to the ministry, the group will work on developing clear mechanisms to confront the spread of betting activities and reduce their social and sporting consequences.
Officials said the committee’s work would also contribute to identifying emerging risks linked to technological developments and online gambling systems.
The ministry did not specify whether new legislation or regulatory penalties could emerge from the committee’s findings, but stressed that monitoring and preventive work would continue.
Focus on Awareness Campaigns
Alongside monitoring and financial oversight, the ministry highlighted the importance of awareness programmes aimed at educating young people about the dangers associated with electronic betting.
Officials said the ministry would continue campaigns designed to promote what it described as a safe sporting environment and reinforce the principles of fair competition.
The statement also stressed the importance of protecting young people from “negative practices associated with betting and illegal platforms”.
Authorities view awareness efforts as a key part of the strategy, particularly given the growing influence of online applications and digital platforms among younger audiences.
The ministry said its approach would continue to rely on cooperation between government institutions, financial authorities and specialists in order to address the issue comprehensively.
