Egypt Cup draw set for Thursday after Super Cup postponement

The Egyptian Football Association will hold the draw for the 2026-27 Egypt Cup round of 32 on Thursday, following the postponement of the Egyptian Super Cup, which had originally been scheduled for the same period.

The draw will take place at 13:00 local time in Cairo and Mecca at the association’s headquarters in the city of 6th of October, the EFA announced in a statement on Wednesday evening.

Wael Riad, technical director of Egypt’s youth national team, and Abdel Sattar Sabry, who oversees the national under-16 side for players born in 2010, will conduct the draw.

The ceremony will determine the match-ups for the round of 32 and map out the route through the subsequent rounds all the way to the final.

The Egypt Cup’s preliminary stages are still under way, with lower-division clubs competing for the remaining places in the main draw. The round of 32 matches are scheduled to be played during the first week of November.

Premier League clubs enter the competition

The round of 32 will feature 20 teams from the Egyptian Premier League, alongside 12 sides that qualify through the fourth preliminary round.

The top-flight clubs listed for the competition include Al Ahly, Zamalek, Pyramids, Ceramica Cleopatra, Al Masry, Al Ittihad Alexandria, Modern Sport, Al Mokawloon Al Arab, ZED FC, National Bank of Egypt, Smouha, Suez National Team, Petrojet, Al Qanah, Wadi Degla, Tala’ea El-Gaish, El Sharkia, ENPPI, Petrol Assiut, Abu Qir Fertilizers, El Gouna and Ghazl El Mahalla.

The list provided by the association’s announcement includes these clubs as participants, although it names 22 teams rather than the stated total of 20.

The remaining places in the round of 32 will be filled by clubs progressing from the preliminary rounds, which have brought together teams from the second division and lower levels of Egyptian football.

Misr El-Makasa have already secured their place in the main competition after beating Levels 2-0 in the only fourth-round preliminary fixture played so far. They became the first side to qualify from that stage.

Preliminary round fixtures continue

The fourth preliminary round is due to conclude on 24, 25 and 26 October, with 11 further fixtures listed.

The remaining matches are Minya against Tahta; Al-Rabat and Al-Anwar against Port Fouad; Nogoum Misr against Telecom Egypt; Samanoud against Baladeyet El-Mahalla; Delphi against Mega Sport; Al-Aluminium against Ittihad El-Shorta; Misr Insurance against Pharco; Tanta against Ismailia Electricity; El-Dakhleya against El-Tersana; Al-Nasr El-Qahiri against El-Sekka El-Hadid; and Broxy against Diamond.

Those matches will decide which clubs join Misr El-Makasa and the Premier League sides in the main draw.

With the draw set for Thursday, the participating teams will learn their opponents and potential routes towards the final. The EFA’s decision to proceed with the Egypt Cup arrangements follows the postponement of the Super Cup, which had been due to take place during the same period.

The round of 32 fixtures are expected to be played in the first week of November, as the competition moves from the preliminary stages into its main knockout rounds.
