Christopher Nkunku says he would be happy to remain at RB Leipzig beyond the end of his loan from Milan, although any permanent move will depend on an agreement between the two clubs.
The France striker returned to Leipzig on an initial loan last summer and has made an impressive start to the season, scoring four goals and providing two assists in eight appearances in all competitions.
RB Leipzig have an option to buy Nkunku for €28m, and the player has made clear that he would welcome the chance to stay in Germany.
“We’ve only just got the start of the season behind us,” Nkunku told Sport Bild via Bulinews.
“There are also several parties involved in these discussions. Above all, the clubs would have to reach an agreement at the end of the season. So it doesn’t depend on me alone. But of course, I can very easily imagine staying longer.”
Nkunku previously spent four years with RB Leipzig between 2019 and 2023, scoring 70 goals in 172 appearances during his first spell.
That period remains the most productive stage of his career so far. After leaving Leipzig, he scored 18 goals in 62 matches for Chelsea across the following two seasons.
His move to Chelsea was worth £52m, or about €62m, but his time at the club was disrupted when he required knee surgery only weeks after completing the transfer.
Nkunku then joined Milan and scored eight goals in 35 appearances in all competitions during the 2025-26 season. He returned to Leipzig on loan last summer and has quickly re-established himself at a club where he feels settled.
“I experienced some very significant moments in my career and my life in Leipzig and with RB,” he said.
“I really enjoyed those four years. I can also feel how much the fans love me, and I sense that family atmosphere. That’s important to me.
“I’m very happy. I feel very comfortable in the city and at the club. I know everything here from my previous time. It’s a special place for me.”
