Benin international David Djigla has returned to familiar territory after signing for Chamois Niortais Saint-Flo ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The French club confirmed the arrival of the experienced winger on Thursday, marking a comeback for a player who previously spent six seasons with Chamois Niortais during their time in Ligue 2.
Djigla, who has represented Benin 30 times, returns to a club where he built a significant part of his career in French football.
The 30-year-old will now bring his experience to Chamois Saint-Flo as the team prepares for a new campaign in Régional 2.
The move represents another chapter in the career of a player who has built a strong connection with French football since arriving from Benin.
Born from the Onze Créateurs academy, Djigla moved through the ranks before joining Girondins de Bordeaux, where he continued his development.
He later established himself at Chamois Niortais, making 128 appearances in Ligue 2 and gaining valuable experience at a competitive level.
His career has also included a spell with Les Herbiers and a more recent stint at FC Chauray before securing his return to Chamois Saint-Flo.
The Benin winger expressed his happiness at returning to a familiar environment and said he was eager to contribute to the club’s ambitions.
“I’m very happy to be back home to start a new chapter. I can’t wait to get back on the pitch, meet my new teammates, and give my all to help the club have the best season possible. See you soon!”
Djigla’s return comes after a period away from the spotlight following his last major international appearance with Benin at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The tournament remains one of the highlights of Benin’s football history, with the Squirrels reaching the quarter-finals after defeating Morocco on penalties in the last 16.
Djigla was part of that historic squad as Benin achieved their best-ever AFCON performance.
Despite becoming less visible in recent years, Djigla’s experience at both club and international level remains valuable.
His record of more than 100 Ligue 2 appearances and three decades of professional football experience gives Chamois Saint-Flo a player capable of providing leadership both on and off the pitch.
