Inter will be without Curtis Jones for about three weeks after the midfielder suffered a thigh injury.
Tests at the Humanitas Institute on Thursday morning showed that the England international has a myofascial strain affecting the adductors in his right thigh, according to Corriere dello Sport. Inter said Jones’ condition would be reviewed again in the coming days.
Jones joined Inter from Liverpool in the summer and is now set to miss Saturday’s home match against Parma. The fixture will be Alberto Gilardino’s first in charge of the Ducali.
A recovery period of approximately 20 days would also prevent Jones from featuring in Inter’s next two Champions League home matches. Cristian Chivu’s team are due to face Club Brugge on October 13 and Shakhtar Donetsk on October 21.
The midfielder is also expected to miss Serie A away games at Bologna and Venezia, as well as the home meeting with Fiorentina.
The Milan derby on October 31 could therefore represent a realistic date for Jones’ return, provided his recovery progresses as expected.
The injury is a setback for Jones, who remained at the Pinetina during the international break to continue working on his fitness after finding his initial weeks in Milan difficult.
Inter resume their Serie A campaign level on 13 points with Roma and Lazio at the top of the table.
