Curtis Jones has completed his move from Liverpool to reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan in a deal worth a reported £30m, including add-ons.
The 25-year-old midfielder has signed a contract that will keep him at Inter Milan until 2031. Liverpool have also retained a 10% sell-on clause as part of the agreement.
Jones leaves Liverpool after spending almost his entire football career with the club. He joined the Reds at the age of nine before progressing through their system and establishing himself in the first team.
During his time at Liverpool, Jones made 228 senior appearances and scored 22 goals. However, opportunities to play regularly became more difficult to secure last season under manager Arne Slot.
He started 18 of Liverpool’s 34 Premier League matches during the campaign, as competition for places limited his involvement. His move to Inter Milan now brings an end to his long association with the English club.
Inter Milan, the reigning Serie A champions, have secured Jones as part of their plans for the future. The agreement means the midfielder will remain with the Italian club for the next five years, subject to the terms of his new contract.
Jones will join fellow England internationals John Stones and Djed Spence at Inter Milan. His arrival adds another player with experience of Premier League football to the Serie A champions’ squad.
Liverpool’s decision to include a 10% sell-on clause gives the club the right to receive a proportion of any future transfer fee if Jones leaves Inter Milan. The initial value of the deal is reported to be £30m, with additional payments dependent on add-ons.
The transfer formally ends Jones’ time at Liverpool, where he spent 16 years after joining as a nine-year-old. He made his senior debut for the club before going on to record 228 appearances and 22 goals for the first team.
Although Jones remained involved under Slot last season, he was a starter in 18 of the 34 Premier League games in which he featured. The move to Inter Milan provides him with a fresh opportunity after regular minutes proved harder to come by at Liverpool.
He will now continue his career with the Serie A champions, having committed his future to Inter Milan until 2031.
