Club Brugge make move for Swiss-Congolese talent Winsley Boteli

Swiss youth international striker Winsley Boteli has emerged as a subject of growing transfer interest across Europe, with clubs in Belgium and Italy reportedly stepping up their pursuit of the 19-year-old.

According to reports, Club Brugge have made an initial offer of €3.5 million to Borussia Mönchengladbach for the forward, marking the first concrete move in what is shaping up to be a competitive transfer race.

Italian side Genoa CFC are also said to be monitoring the situation closely and have already opened discussions with the Bundesliga club.

Boteli, who was born in Switzerland but is of DR Congo descent, represents a growing group of players with African roots making their mark in European football.

Although he does not hold a DR Congo passport, he is eligible through heritage and has already featured for Switzerland at youth level, including participation in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship in 2023.

Currently under contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach until June 2028, the young striker spent the season on loan at FC Sion, where he has been working to establish himself.

Despite limited playing time, his productivity in front of goal has drawn attention. In 34 appearances, totaling 647 minutes, Boteli has scored nine goals and provided one assist, a return that has underlined his potential.

His performances have not gone unnoticed. Club Brugge’s approach signals a clear intent to secure a promising attacking talent early, while Genoa’s involvement suggests that interest in the player extends beyond Belgium.

The situation remains fluid, with multiple clubs keeping a close watch as developments unfold.

For FC Sion, there remains hope of retaining the striker on a permanent basis.

The Swiss club are understood to value his contribution this season and would prefer to keep him as part of their long-term plans.

However, with external interest intensifying, their position may be tested in the coming weeks.

Boteli’s relatively modest market valuation of around €1 million contrasts with the reported €3.5 million bid, highlighting the premium clubs are willing to pay for emerging talent.

His combination of youth, international experience at junior level, and proven efficiency in limited minutes has made him an attractive prospect.

The transfer situation also reflects a broader trend within European football, where clubs are increasingly investing in young players with dual heritage, particularly those connected to African nations.

For DR Congo, players like Boteli represent potential future assets, even if their international allegiance is yet to be decided.

As negotiations continue, the next steps will likely depend on Borussia Mönchengladbach’s stance, FC Sion’s ambitions, and whether competing clubs decide to formalise their interest with concrete offers.
