Nigeria international Chiamaka Nnadozie has been named in the Women’s Super League Team of the Season after an impressive first campaign with Brighton & Hove Albion Women.
The selection, unveiled by WhoScored.com on Monday, recognised the goalkeeper’s performances during the recently concluded league season, in which Brighton finished seventh in the standings.
Nnadozie, who joined the English side from Paris FC last summer, established herself as one of the standout goalkeepers in the division. The Super Falcons player kept six clean sheets across the campaign and produced a series of notable displays for the Seagulls in her debut season in England.
The 25-year-old earned a place in the Team of the Season after recording an average rating of 6.87 from 19 appearances in the Women’s Super League.
Her performances were underlined by several key statistics. Nnadozie prevented an average of 3.7 goals per game during the season, while also making 44 saves from inside the penalty area and another 18 from outside the box. She conceded 21 goals across her league appearances.
The Team of the Season was heavily dominated by Manchester City Women, who provided six players in the final selection. Kerstin Casparij, Alex Greenwood, Vivianne Miedema, Kerolin, Lauren Hemp and Khadija Shaw were all included after City’s strong campaign.
The remaining places in the side were occupied by Millie Bright, Lynn Wilms, Mariona Caldentey and Alessia Russo.
Arsenal contributed two players to the selection, while Brighton, Aston Villa and Chelsea Women each had one representative included in the team.
Nnadozie’s inclusion marks another milestone in her growing reputation in women’s football following her move from France to England. The goalkeeper arrived at Brighton after spells with Paris FC, where she had already built a reputation for consistent performances at club and international level.
Her debut season in the Women’s Super League has now ended with individual recognition among some of the biggest names in the game. Sharing a place in the Team of the Season alongside established internationals from Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea underlines the impact she made during her first year in the competition.
Attention will now turn to the Women’s FA Cup final later this month, where Nnadozie will have the opportunity to compete for her first trophy with Brighton.
Brighton are set to face Manchester City at Wembley on 31 May in the final, with Nnadozie hoping to cap her impressive campaign by helping the Seagulls secure silverware.
The final will also provide another opportunity for the Nigerian goalkeeper to test herself against several of the players who were named alongside her in the Team of the Season.
After a season in which she established herself as one of Brighton’s key performers, Nnadozie’s recognition is likely to further strengthen her standing as one of Africa’s leading goalkeepers and one of the standout players in the Women’s Super League this season.
