Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo says the club remains firmly focused on the Premier League title race after already lifting both the League Cup and FA Cup this season.
City strengthened their hopes of completing a domestic treble after defeating Chelsea F.C. in the FA Cup final at Wembley, with Semenyo scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory. The Ghanaian striker found the net with a backheel finish, securing another major trophy for the Sky Blues.
Attention has now shifted to the Premier League, although City face a difficult challenge in their pursuit of top spot. Arsenal F.C. currently lead the standings and are considered favourites to secure the title, sitting two points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side.
Despite that gap, Semenyo insisted Manchester City still believe they can overtake their rivals before the end of the campaign.
The striker, who joined the club in January, has now scored 10 goals for City in all competitions. His impact has quickly made him an important figure in the squad during the second half of the season.
Speaking after the FA Cup final victory, Semenyo said City’s primary concern must be winning their own matches rather than focusing too heavily on Arsenal’s results.
“We just have to win our games, that’s the most important thing. If we do our job, maybe Burnley and Crystal Palace (Arsenal’s opponents) can give us a helping hand. But we have to stay focused on ourselves and see what happens,” declared the Ghanaian striker in the mixed zone at Wembley.
City’s success in the domestic cup competitions has already ensured the season will be remembered positively, but the possibility of adding the Premier League crown has increased excitement around the club.
The win over Chelsea also highlighted Semenyo’s growing influence since arriving at the Etihad Stadium earlier this year. His FA Cup final winner was his 10th goal for Manchester City and perhaps his most significant so far.
While Arsenal remain in control of the title race, City know there is still a chance to close the gap if results go their way in the closing weeks of the season. Arsenal’s remaining fixtures against Burnley F.C. and Crystal Palace F.C. could prove decisive.
For now, however, Semenyo says City’s focus must remain internal as they seek to maintain momentum following their latest Wembley triumph.
The club’s FA Cup victory has added another trophy to an already successful campaign, but players and supporters alike will continue to hope that the Premier League title can still be added to their collection before the season concludes.
