Relebohile Mofokeng’s rapid rise at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise has attracted interest from four European clubs, with Atletico Madrid, Napoli, Chelsea and Brighton monitoring the South Africa international.
The 21-year-old attacker joined Union SG from Orlando Pirates on 2 July 2026, moving to Belgium for a reported domestic-record transfer fee of R65.3 million (€3.5 million). He signed a four-year contract, with the option of a further year.
According to global transfer expert Ekrem Konur, the four clubs are closely following Mofokeng after his impressive start to life in European football.
Mofokeng has quickly established himself as an important creative option for Union SG manager David Hubert. His competitive debut came in the Belgian Super Cup final against Club Brugge on 31 July, when he came on as a substitute before scoring the decisive penalty in the shootout.
He made an immediate impact in the Belgian Pro League, finding the net on his league debut against K.V.C. Westerlo on 8 August.
Mofokeng has scored four goals and provided one assist in nine appearances across all competitions, according to available statistics. In the league, he has three goals and one assist.
One of his strongest performances came against Royal Antwerp, when he helped control the tempo as Union SG secured a 2-0 victory.
He has also made his mark in the UEFA Europa League. Mofokeng scored in Union SG’s 3-0 win over Viktoria Plzen on 17 September, further strengthening his claim for regular involvement in Hubert’s squad.
The move to Belgium has also been followed by a breakthrough on the international stage with Bafana Bafana.
On 30 September, Mofokeng scored twice in South Africa’s 5-0 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying victory over Eritrea in Cairo. He opened the scoring in the 19th minute before doubling the lead with an impressive solo effort shortly before half-time, beating two defenders before finishing.
The goals were his first official senior international strikes and added to the growing interest in his progress outside Belgium.
Mofokeng has moved from Orlando Pirates to the attention of Atletico Madrid, Napoli, Chelsea and Brighton in the space of three months. His next task will be to maintain that level of performance at Union SG while competing for regular playing time and adjusting to a different football environment.
