Brighton defender Luka Vuskovic could leave the club in January, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich both reported to be considering a move for the teenager.
Vuskovic joined Brighton from Tottenham Hotspur on 14 July 2026 in a deal worth up to £50M, but reports suggest he may be on the move again only months after completing that transfer.
The Croatia youth international attracted significant attention during a loan spell at Hamburg in the 2025/26 Bundesliga season. He scored six goals in 30 appearances in all competitions before returning to Spurs, who were keen to sell him to Brighton.
His performances in Germany earned him four Bundesliga Rookie of the Month awards and the overall Rookie of the Season prize. He was also selected for the Bundesliga Team of the Year.
That form is understood to have brought him to the attention of Bayern Munich’s scouts. The German champions are believed to have considered signing Vuskovic on two previous occasions, although they did not complete a deal for the youngster.
Bayern are again linked with a possible January move, but reports claim the club are not currently in a position to make an offer. That could leave Chelsea with a clearer opportunity to pursue the defender.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said in February, in an interview with Croatian outlet Tportal: “We cannot sign every good player whom the public think absolutely has to join Bayern Munich.”
The club’s honorary president, Uli Hoeneß, also indicated that financial limitations could prevent Bayern from continuing to expand their squad at will.
“Because at some point the other side comes and says: ‘Max, we’re not made of money. We can’t keep inflating the squad like this,’” Hoeneß said.
Vuskovic is under contract with Brighton until 30 June 2031. He signed a five-year deal when he moved to the club on 14 July 2026, meaning Brighton would be in a strong position to demand a substantial fee should either Chelsea or Bayern make a formal approach.
The defender’s performances for Hamburg, together with the individual awards he collected in the Bundesliga, have made him one of the most sought-after young players linked with a possible move during the January transfer window.
