Casa Sports and Senegal forward Pape Sémou Sané says a controversial red card early in his career remains one of his most painful football memories, as the young striker continues to establish himself at the Senegalese club.
The attacker, who joined Casa Sports during the 2024/2025 season, has gradually grown into a key figure in the team’s attack.
His recent performances have highlighted his development, but he admits his journey has not been without setbacks.
Reflecting on a difficult moment during a Navétanes tournament in Ziguinchor, Sané described how he was sent off under disputed circumstances, an incident that left a lasting emotional impact.
“Without even asking for my side of the story, the referee sent me off,” he said.
The striker explained that the decision came after the opposing coach reportedly intervened with the referee, accusing him of striking a player.
Sané believes he was targeted due to his influence on the game, and the decision ultimately left his team at a disadvantage.
They were later eliminated on penalties, compounding the disappointment.
Despite that experience, Sané has continued to focus on his growth, using challenges as motivation to improve.
Born in Ziguinchor, the forward began his football journey in local competitions, featuring for teams in Bignona before making his mark in the regional championship with AJF.
One of his earliest standout moments came at the Jules François Bocandé Municipal Stadium, where he scored his first brace against Cap Skirring, an achievement that helped boost his confidence and recognition.
As he continues to develop, Sané has looked beyond local football for inspiration.
He follows European competitions closely and has identified Viktor Gyökeres as a role model, particularly admiring the striker’s composure, finishing ability, and determination in front of goal.
He has sought to incorporate similar qualities into his own game, working on his speed, balance, and tactical awareness with the support of a personal coach.
His progress has not gone unnoticed.
Sané revealed that he has received several offers from clubs abroad over the past year. However, he has chosen to remain patient, opting to continue his development at Casa Sports rather than rushing into a move.
This measured approach extends beyond the pitch.
The young forward emphasised his focus on discipline, explaining that he avoids distractions such as nightlife, instead prioritising recovery and spending time with his family in Casamance.
Sané recently found the net again for Casa Sports, scoring from an assist by Malick Sambou, although his team were unable to hold on to their lead.
As he continues to grow in confidence and experience, Sané’s story reflects the path of many young African footballers, balancing ambition with patience, and learning from both success and adversity.
