Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has completed a move to Chilean club Colo-Colo after playing a key role in the island nation’s memorable 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The 40-year-old, whose performances helped Cape Verde make headlines on football’s biggest stage, has signed a contract with the Santiago-based club until the end of the year.
Colo-Colo confirmed the arrival of the experienced goalkeeper after he emerged as one of the standout figures from Cape Verde’s first appearance at the World Cup.
The move comes after Vozinha became a free agent following the end of his spell with Portuguese club Chaves. There had been brief interest from Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, but the Cape Verde international ultimately chose a move to Chile.
Colo-Colo president Aníbal Mosa confirmed that Vozinha would travel to Chile, complete medical examinations and then be officially presented to supporters at the Monumental Stadium.
“Vozinha is set to become a Colo Colo player; he will arrive in Chile in the coming days, undergo the necessary medical tests and will then be presented here at the Monumental Stadium,” Mosa told reporters ahead of a league match.
Vozinha earned widespread praise during the World Cup after producing a series of impressive displays for Cape Verde.
The goalkeeper was instrumental in their group-stage campaign, helping the Blue Sharks secure a goalless draw against eventual champions Spain.
He continued to impress in the knockout rounds, making several important saves as Cape Verde pushed Argentina, who went on to reach the final, before eventually losing 3-2 after extra time.
Those performances helped raise the profile of both Vozinha and Cape Verde, who were among the surprise stories of the tournament.
Born Josimar José Évora Dias, the goalkeeper has enjoyed a long and varied career across several countries. Despite not signing his first professional contract until the age of 26, he went on to represent clubs in Cyprus, Slovakia, Moldova, Angola and Portugal.
His latest challenge will see him join one of South America’s most recognised clubs in Colo-Colo, where his experience and leadership will be expected to strengthen the squad.
