Nigerian music superstar Burna Boy has arrived in Mexico City ahead of his highly anticipated performance at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday, June 11.
The Grammy Award-winning Afrobeats sensation is set to share the stage with Colombian pop icon Shakira at the historic Estadio Azteca as the tournament officially gets underway.
The pair will perform “Dai Dai”, the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in what will be its first live performance before a global audience. The song has also been linked to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund initiative, which aims to support educational opportunities worldwide.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. local time, approximately 90 minutes before the tournament’s opening match between co-hosts Mexico and South Africa.
Burna Boy and Shakira headline a star-studded entertainment lineup that also includes Tyla, J Balvin, Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules and Maná.
The Mexico City event will be the first of three opening ceremonies planned across the tournament’s host nations. Additional celebrations are scheduled for Los Angeles and Toronto on June 12, featuring performers including Katy Perry, Future, Alanis Morissette and Michael Bublé.
