Borussia Dortmund’s 18-year-old centre-back Luca Reggiani could depart the club during the winter transfer window, according to Bild.
Reggiani has struggled for regular first-team opportunities since joining Dortmund from Sassuolo. Unless his prospects improve before the winter break, the Italy defender is understood to be open to moving on.
Ruhr Nachrichten had previously named Reggiani as the Borussia Dortmund player most likely to leave. He has fallen behind Daniel Svensson in the club’s defensive pecking order, despite Svensson originally being a winger.
Reggiani made his Italy debut last June, but has found it difficult to establish himself under head coach Niko Kovac.
There was already speculation about a possible departure last summer, before the transfer window closed. Southampton submitted a bid for the defender on the final day, although the proposed move broke down, partly because Reggiani himself showed little interest in joining the club.
Inter Milan and AC Milan also made contact with Reggiani during that period. Inter went as far as asking the player’s representatives about the financial terms of a potential transfer.
Some reports have since suggested that Reggiani would consider returning to Italy. However, it remains unclear how much Borussia Dortmund would demand for the defender.
Reggiani arrived in Germany from Sassuolo but has so far had only limited playing time at Dortmund. His situation before the winter break is expected to influence whether he remains with the club or seeks a move in January.
