Bolivia captain Carlos Lampe has shared his assessment of Algeria ahead of the Fennecs’ opening match against Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, identifying both the strengths and weaknesses he observed after facing Vladimir Petkovic’s side in a recent warm-up encounter.
Despite Bolivia suffering a heavy defeat, the experienced goalkeeper believes the match offered valuable insights into Algeria’s tactical approach.
According to observations reported by Footmercato, Lampe suggested that Algeria’s pressing was not always effective, noting that Bolivia managed to build from the back on several occasions, especially down the right flank during the first half.
The 39-year-old also pointed out what he considered a vulnerability in Algeria’s defensive organisation, particularly when the team was forced to drop deeper towards the left side. He described the Fennecs as appearing “a bit static” at certain moments of the match.
However, Lampe was quick to acknowledge Algeria’s major strengths, particularly their ability to regain possession and transition rapidly into attack.
He singled out Mohamed Amoura as one of Algeria’s most dangerous weapons, praising the forward’s pace, movement and awareness during counter-attacking situations.
The Bolivian goalkeeper also highlighted the attacking contribution of full-back Rayan Aït Nouri and stressed the importance of limiting the influence of captain Riyad Mahrez, whose creativity and experience remain vital to the Algerian side.
In addition, Lampe identified Farès Chaïbi as a player capable of unlocking opposition defences with his creativity, while also pointing to Anis Hadj Moussa as another significant attacking threat.
As Algeria prepare to face reigning world champions Argentina in their World Cup opener in Kansas City, Lampe’s comments provide an interesting external view of a team aiming to make a strong statement on football’s biggest stage.
The Fennecs will now look to address any defensive concerns while relying on their pace, creativity and attacking quality to challenge one of the tournament favourites.
