Khama Billiat delivered a decisive performance as Scottland FC secured a 1-0 victory over MWOS FC in the Harare Derby at Ngoni Stadium on Saturday, scoring the only goal and earning man-of-the-match honours.
The 35-year-old forward struck early in the second half to settle a closely contested encounter, capitalising on a defensive error to give Scottland the advantage in the 54th minute. The move followed a swift attacking transition initiated by Mafious Chihweta, allowing Billiat to seize the opportunity and convert.
The result lifts Scottland FC to third place in the league standings, level on points with second-placed Hardrock and just two behind leaders CAPS United. The team has maintained an unbeaten run so far this season, registering four wins and five draws.
Billiat’s return to Zimbabwean football has proven influential since he rejoined the domestic game in 2024. After initially signing for Yadah FC, he made an immediate impact, producing an impressive campaign that saw him score 13 goals and provide 11 assists in 26 appearances.
His form prompted a move to newly promoted Scottland FC, where he continued to play a key role. In the following season, he was instrumental in helping the club secure the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title, underlining his continued importance despite his veteran status.
This season, Billiat has maintained his momentum, with his latest strike marking his fifth goal in nine matches. His performances suggest a resurgence following his departure from Kaizer Chiefs, where he previously played before returning to his home country.
Saturday’s derby encounter remained goalless at the break, with both sides struggling to find a breakthrough in a tightly contested first half. However, Scottland emerged with greater attacking intent after the interval, eventually finding the decisive moment through Billiat’s opportunism.
The victory reinforces Scottland’s strong start to the campaign, placing them among a group of teams yet to suffer defeat. Alongside Scottland, Ngezi Platinum, Dynamos, and Highlanders FC have also preserved unbeaten records in the league.
Billiat is part of a growing number of Zimbabwean players who have returned home after spells in South Africa’s top flight. Notable names include Knowledge Musona, Terrence Dzvukamanja, Walter Musona and Willard Katsande.
Their presence has added experience and quality to the domestic league, with Billiat’s recent performances highlighting the impact of returning players.
Scottland will look to build on this momentum as the season progresses, with Billiat’s form likely to remain central to their ambitions of challenging at the top of the table.
