Bayern Munich face another away test at Atletico Madrid in Champions League

At 4:00 AM Beijing Time on November 4, Bayern Munich will travel to Atletico Madrid for the fourth round of the Champions League group stage, seeking a first away victory against their Spanish opponents.

Bayern are unbeaten in their past three European meetings with Atletico Madrid, recording two wins and one draw. Their most recent victories came in the 2020/21 group stage, when they won 4-0 at home before drawing 1-1 in Madrid.

The German club have also enjoyed a strong overall record against sides from La Liga. Across their last 16 European matches against Spanish teams, Bayern have suffered just three defeats, alongside nine wins and four draws.

However, Atletico Madrid remain one of the few Spanish opponents Bayern have yet to beat on their own ground. The clubs have met there three times in the Champions League, with Bayern losing twice and drawing once.

Bayern’s first visit came in the first leg of the 2015/16 semi-finals, when Atletico Madrid secured a 1-0 victory. The same scoreline was repeated in the 2016/17 group stage, before Bayern earned a 1-1 draw on their return during the 2020/21 group stage.
