Bayern Munich will face Ajax in a friendly on 5 January 2027 to officially open Kenya’s new national stadium, Ajax have announced.
The match will bring together two of European football’s most decorated clubs, with Bayern Munich having won the European Cup and Champions League six times and Ajax having lifted the trophy on four occasions.
The fixture is expected to be a major football event for East Africa and an important moment for Kenya as it prepares to host a continental championship. The 60,000-capacity stadium is scheduled to stage matches at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ajax said the club was proud to have been invited to take part in the stadium’s opening match.
For Michel Sanchez’s side, the game will be the final stage of preparations for the second half of the season.
