Bastien Meupiyou: Galatasaray weigh move for France-Cameroon centre-back at Alverca

Galatasaray are considering a move for France-Cameroon defender Bastien Meupiyou, who currently plays for Portuguese side Alverca. The 20-year-old centre-back, contracted to the Liga Portugal club until 30 June 2028, has emerged as a target for the Istanbul giants as they assess defensive options in the Super Lig.

The likelihood of a transfer has been rated at just under 50%, indicating that Galatasaray are seriously monitoring Meupiyou’s situation but have not yet pushed the talks towards an advanced stage. Any deal would require negotiation with Alverca, as the move would not be a free transfer, and the defender’s current market value is estimated at €7m.

Meupiyou, a left-footed central defender born in Paris on 19 March 2006, only joined Alverca on 21 July 2025 and has established himself in the first team since arriving in Portugal. Standing at 1.91m, he has added a physically imposing option at the heart of Alverca’s back line in the Portuguese top flight.

Eligible to represent both France and Cameroon, Meupiyou’s development in Liga Portugal has attracted interest from outside Portugal as clubs look for defensive reinforcements capable of stepping into a higher-profile environment. His performances for Alverca over the current campaign have underpinned the growing attention from abroad.

With Galatasaray weighing up whether to formalise their interest, Alverca are protected by a contract running through to 2028, leaving the Portuguese club in a strong position as the next phase of Meupiyou’s career is debated.
