Barcelona are seeking an explanation for why Raphinha has suffered his last three injuries while on duty with Brazil, with all three problems affecting the same area: his right thigh.
The club’s staff responsible for the player’s physical preparation plan to speak to Raphinha either before or after his medical examinations, according to Mundo Deportivo. They want to establish whether a recurring pattern in his training or warm-up routine could be contributing to the injuries.
Barcelona are also expected to examine whether the methods used by Brazil differ from the daily work Raphinha follows at club level.
The forward had made an excellent start to the season with Barcelona after Benjamin Kugel took over as the club’s new fitness coach. However, he suffered another muscular problem after joining up with Brazil, although the latest issue does not currently appear to be serious.
Raphinha played the full 90 minutes in Brazil’s match against Australia last Friday. He was the only forward to complete the game despite a long journey, before Carlo Ancelotti selected him from the start again in Melbourne on Tuesday.
The current concern follows two earlier injuries in 2026. At the end of March, Raphinha suffered a right hamstring injury during a friendly against France in Boston. That ruled him out of Barcelona’s Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid, who eventually eliminated the Catalan club.
His next injury came on 20 June during Brazil’s second match at the World Cup against Haiti, when he felt pain in the back of his right thigh. He missed the following two matches against Scotland and Japan.
Raphinha was named among the substitutes for the last-16 meeting with Norway after being given medical clearance to play, but he did not come on.
He has now returned from Australia with another physical problem, and preventing the same sequence from happening again is Barcelona’s main objective. The club wants to determine whether there is a link between the repeated injuries and the work Raphinha undertakes with Brazil, while also ensuring that his fitness is managed carefully when he returns to Barcelona.
