Barcelona eye Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush

FC Barcelona have reportedly identified Omar Marmoush as their primary transfer target for the upcoming summer window as the Spanish champions continue plans to reshape their attack for the future.

According to Spanish media reports, Barcelona’s coaching staff, led by German manager Hansi Flick, view the Egyptian forward as the ideal option to strengthen the club’s attacking line ahead of the new season.

The reports suggest Marmoush, who currently plays for Manchester City FC, has become the first-choice candidate within the club’s sporting project as Barcelona search for a long-term successor to veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski is approaching his 38th birthday, prompting growing discussions inside the Catalan club about the future structure of the team’s forward line.

Barcelona are understood to be looking for a player capable of leading the attack over the coming years while also fitting into the club’s financial framework.

The club continues to operate under economic restrictions that reportedly prevent it from pursuing transfer deals worth more than 100 million euros, making recruitment strategy a key factor in summer planning.

Within that context, Marmoush has reportedly emerged as the preferred option because of both his playing profile and perceived financial accessibility compared with some of Europe’s most expensive forwards.

Spanish newspaper Sport reported that the Egyptian international is currently considered the “number one target for the coaching staff” at Barcelona.

The report added that Flick is particularly impressed by Marmoush’s physical intensity and direct style of play.

According to the newspaper, the German coach believes the forward’s “vertical style and physical intensity are perfectly suited to the high-pressing philosophy he applies at Barcelona.”

Those qualities are reportedly viewed as essential for the tactical identity Flick hopes to establish at the club.

Barcelona’s interest also appears linked to wider developments at Manchester City, where significant changes are reportedly taking place within the squad structure.

Sources cited in the reports suggest Barcelona hope to take advantage of that situation by opening communication channels aimed at convincing Marmoush to leave the Etihad Stadium and begin a new chapter in Spain.

The Catalan club are believed to see the Egyptian striker as a player capable of becoming a central figure in the next phase of the team’s evolution.

Marmoush’s performances have continued to attract attention at both club and international level, strengthening his growing reputation as one of the leading Egyptian forwards of his generation.

Barcelona’s reported interest represents another indication of the club’s desire to blend experience with younger, physically dynamic players as it prepares for the post-Lewandowski era.

The potential transfer would also align with Flick’s tactical preferences, which rely heavily on pressing intensity, rapid transitions and aggressive attacking movement.

While no official negotiations have yet been confirmed, the reports suggest Barcelona are seriously exploring the possibility of making Marmoush one of the club’s headline attacking additions this summer.

Any move, however, would likely depend on financial conditions and Manchester City’s willingness to allow the player to leave.

For now, Marmoush’s future remains uncertain, but the growing links with Barcelona have already added intrigue to what is expected to be one of the club’s most closely watched transfer windows in recent years.
