Barcelona have successfully registered midfielder Rodri ahead of their first match of the 2026/27 season, according to The Touchline.
The club announced Rodri’s transfer from Manchester City several days ago. The midfielder has signed a four-season contract and has already joined Barcelona’s training sessions as he begins his time at the club.
Rodri had previously said that he was in good shape and ready to play. His registration means Barcelona have now completed the necessary process involving their new midfielder before the opening fixture of the campaign.
Barcelona will begin their 2026/27 season on Sunday, 23 August, when Hansi Flick’s team travel to face Elche. The match will be played at Elche’s stadium, with the fixture providing the first opportunity for the club to begin the new season on the pitch.
The timing of Rodri’s registration adds to the interest surrounding Barcelona’s opening match. The midfielder arrived from Manchester City after agreeing a long-term deal and has already been integrated into the squad’s training programme.
Barcelona’s first league game will therefore come shortly after Rodri’s move was confirmed and as the club prepare for their opening competitive test under Flick. The match against Elche will be the first fixture of the new campaign for the team.
Rodri was also recognised this summer as the best player at the World Cup. Spain won the final against Argentina, completing the tournament with victory over the South American side.
That achievement provides the latest major distinction in Rodri’s career as he starts a new chapter with Barcelona. His move from Manchester City, the four-season contract and his registration have all been confirmed before the Catalan club’s season opener.
For Barcelona, the immediate focus is now on the away meeting with Elche on 23 August. Flick’s side will begin their campaign with Rodri registered and already training with the squad, while the midfielder will look to build on his World Cup success after being named the tournament’s best player.
