Barcelona and Bayern Munich tracking Aston Villa midfielder John Manzambi

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are among the leading European clubs monitoring Aston Villa midfielder John Manzambi, whose performances have reportedly convinced scouts he could become a future superstar.

The 21-year-old Switzerland international has attracted interest from several major clubs, with teams assessing his progress and considering his long-term potential.

Speaking on TEAMtalk, journalist Graeme Bailey said: “We know that scouts from some of Europe’s top clubs have been impressed by Manzambi’s performances, with several seeing him as a ‘future superstar’. Work is already underway behind the scenes, with potentially interested clubs assessing his development and long-term prospects.”

Manzambi is regarded as a versatile midfielder who can carry the ball forward, attack the penalty area, create chances and score. His technical ability and intelligence have also been identified as important aspects of his game.

Bayern Munich began following the player during his time at Freiburg, where he scored 7 goals and registered 9 assists in 47 appearances. The German club and Barcelona are now two of the sides “closely monitoring” his situation.

Born in Geneva in 2005, Manzambi has since moved to Aston Villa in a deal worth €60 million. He has produced either a goal or an assist in every match under Emery.

His form has also extended to the international stage. At the World Cup, Manzambi recorded three goals and two assists in the four matches he was available for. An injury ruled him out of Switzerland’s Round of 16 and quarter-final matches.

The midfielder was named the Europa League’s “Best Young Player” last season, further increasing his profile among Europe’s leading clubs.

According to Alberto Rubio, Emery’s assessment of the highly wanted player was quoted in Marca.

“He is a versatile player who can drive forward with the ball, make runs into the box, provide assists, and score goals. He possesses both technical skill and intelligence, and his physical attributes are also very important for our defense and for winning aerial duels in attack,” Emery said.
